Sherwin's 5 FAQ's

Yep. I got bored and this is a result of that boredom. Below are a list of frequently asked questions that I have answered on a regular basis for the majority of my life (all 21 years of it).

This is going to be fun.

1. Why is your name Sherwin?
A. My full name is Matthew Sherwin Catchpole, and I thought that my middle name would prove memorable and unique to use as my stage name. Plus, I sort of like it.

2. How many songs have you written?
A. Over 100. That's for sure. Most of them are on my YouTube account, however some of them are so awful that they remain firmly inside my songbook (as shown by this awful song below).

 

3. What instruments can you play?

A. Honestly? Quite a few, but not very well! I've got a grade 5 in violin, self-taught piano, guitar, ukulele and the drums. Most of my instruments have names too. For example, my green ukulele is named Charlie! Don't have a clue why, but hey...

 

4. Are you in a band?

A. Well, sort of. I mean, I write all my songs myself, however I have a few good mates from secondary school called Bill and James who join me to play live gigs. You can spot them occasionally in my videos.

 

5. What else do you do apart from music?

A. I quite like sleeping and eating... but apart from that? Hmm I have a few other blogs that follow my other interests apart from my music. These include my Beer Blog Gardening Blog and Book Blog 

 

So that's it. I hope you found this as dull reading as I found writing it! Ha. Now go and do something productive with your time!

YouTube Video Update (New Song)

Hey guys!

If you aren't subscribed to me on YouTube, they you wouldn't have known about my new song! I've written a song called 'Alice Can I Take You To Wonderland' (long title I know) and it has a significant meaning to me.

I wrote this song after attending a wedding back in summer last year and I met a really beautiful girl from France called Alice. We talked for a long time and there seemed to be a connection, however, by the end of the night she had disappeared. I haven't seen her since.

She ran through my mind for weeks after the wedding and no matter how much searching I did, she couldn't be found anywhere. This is where the basis for the song came from, yet she's unlikely ever to hear it...

It's 2014 and I hope you all had a lovely, relaxing Christmas! Unfortunately all the glamour has ebbed away as we all have work or school to go to!

Christmas Is Coming

 It's been over one whole year since I've posted on this blog; can you believe it?! Therefore to end my absence I'm returning with festive joy. Aside from eating too many mince pies, I have been busy preparing a whole bundle of giveaways for Christmas on my Facebook and Twitter!

 

Over the coming month (December), I'm hanging up the digital Christmas decorations and providing loads of fun ways to get your hands on my merchandise. If that wasn't enough, I'm also releasing two new unheard songs for FREE!

"Charlie" The Ukulele

Ladies and Non-Ladies,

I feel like boring you with another one of my pointless blogs, as I have not been posting as regularly as i'd originally hoped for!

When the Olympics commenced on Friday, I made a promise to myself to not venture into the heart of London due to the expected difficulty of travelling. Yet when Sunday morning dawned, I found myself breaking the promise I had made only two days previously and sitting on a stuffy tourist-packed train towards Tottenham Court Road.

Once i'd arrived however, it all seemed worthwhile, for the sun was shining and the shops were full of sexy girls from various exotic countries. At this point I was quite enjoying myself as I took my regular stroll down Denmark Street.

For those of you who do not know, Denmark Street is a road in Central London with every shop being music related, from instruments and sheet music, to recording studios. It was here that a bright object caught my eye in one of the shop windows.

Further inspection showed it to be a bright yellow/green ukulele, a kind of miniature guitar. It was not something I had set out to buy, nor had I ever wanted one before, yet knew that I could not leave without it. So I made an "on-the-spot" decision and parted with my money to own this magnificent instrument.

I'm now at home and writing this blog with the ukulele i've christened with the name "Charlie" leaning against my bedroom wall. Aside from annoying my parents with endless hours spent trying to make a decent sound out of it, I think i've finally managed to learn how to play my song "Love".

Below is my attempt at this live version of my song! Please don't be too critical, i've only been playing with it for a few hours and this is the result:

The Prep (Brand New Show)

Hey guys,

Hope life is treating you well! Just wanted to let you know about an exciting new project I will be taking on this summer.

Basically, I haven't done a proper gig in just over a year, so therefore I have devised a brand new show called "The Prep" to be hosted on my YouTube account. Over a collection of 5 video's, it will follow the progression from our band rehersals to collaborations with other artists and will end finally on a live recorded gig from a venue in London.

Every episode will include 3 sections. The first being: Shout-outs. This is where I mention people who message me on facebook, twitter, or youtube, so if you want a shout-out on the very first episode, just let me know!

The second section will include a "During the week" which obviously shows whats been going on throught our week. And finally "Finish the lyrics" which involves putting up some unfinished famous lyrics, and you have to guess the rest of them.
Winners get prizes!!!

The very first episode should be up (hopefully) in a couple of weeks, just thought i'd keep you posted.

My Debut Book

Song Writing, Book Writing and Alcohol

Hello! I hope you have all had a brilliant week, and life has been treating you well.
The big news is that I have written/recorded a new song titled: My First Time. As you can probably guess it is about virginity and the pressures that teenagers face, especially ones I faced when I was around 16.

Also this week, I shall be writing a book. Not just any book, but a thriller. Its going to be about a woman being stalked! Scary huh?! I will expand on this when i have finally got the plan together by next week.

Today I experimented with making bread for the first time, and i must say it turned out rather well. In fact I have a picture of it here:

Admittedly I was quite well covered with flour by the end, almost as much as the dough itself... but nevertheless it turned out spiffingly!

A New Year

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you have enjoyed the first few weeks of 2012.
I have come up with my own resolutions that I plan to see through to the years end, and these are to have fun... and then have more fun! After all, if we are going to die this year, why not make the most of it?

I'd love to know some of your New Year's resolutions!

I don't have much to talk about this week, so I will leave you with a song that has me dancing all night in my bedroom, it's really catchy. Have a listen:

Butterbeer, Filming and Snow

I woke up early this morning and to my surprise it was snowing, turning my normal dreary suberban garden into its own little Narnia. Unfortunately no talking lions could be seen...

Another exciting moment this week was the filming of the last SherwinTV of 2011. One of my best friends, Billy and myself took the opportunity to recreate an delicious beverage know in the Harry Potter books as Butterbeer. To say it was scrumptious would be an understatement. It was the most satisfying thing I have tasted all year! To watch how we made it or instructions to try and recreate it yourself, click the video below:

Lastly, but by no means less extraordinary, I was contacted by a director this week, wanting to create a music video for one of my songs! How amazing is that?! So, I have (understandibly) been very busy planning the filming due to take place in January 2012, and I have come to the decision to choose Blue Skies (Click here to listen) as the featured song in the music video.

To give you a slight preview of what to expect from the end product, here is the storyboard I created earlier this week, to give an outline of the plot to the director. I hope you find it interesting.

Festive Happiness

Christmas decorations are up. The house has exploded with colour from beautiful fairy lights. To add to the occasion, I am devouring a brandy filled mince pie! What could be better?
Well, this week I finished University for the Christmas holidays, I got another 1'st in my assignment AND I passed my driving test!

Of course, material goods are not what make a memorable Christmas. What is most important is friendship, family and charity. Their are many out there who cannot afford shelter, or a hot meal. We can all help. Kindness is free.

Anyway, enough of my Charles Dickens rant. Here is a picture of my bookcase that has been tastefully decorated to match the festivities. Post a comment below if you recognise any of the books!

A Celebration Of Differences

Another week has passed before us, like a breeze on a frosty December morning. The one moment you begin to appreciate its beauty, the next moment it has vanished. Doesn't that apply to life? Something is only appreciated once their is a possibility of it dissapearing? Nevermind...enough of my pragmatistic views.

My week has been amazing to say the least. I recieved the results of my first University exam and assignment. I managed to achieve a 1st in my exam and a 2.1 in my assignment! If you are familiar with the grading scheme to which the Universities follow, you will understand the cause of my happiness.

Differently, but by no means less extrodinary, I have released a damning song about the video host on YouTube: VEVO, expressing my annoyance of its 30 second adverts and false copyright claims which can be viewed below:

I hope my dissaproval of VEVO is shared with all of you, but let us not dwell on matters that "piss on the parade". As i'm sure you are all aware, Christmas is getting closer, festive songs are gracing our airwaves and mulled wine is being stocked for the seasonal celebrations in weeks to come.

What I would like to know is when it is acceptable to hang the decorations and place the Christmas tree in the living room!

The Monotony Begins

One must assume that I have more pressing matters to attend to, rather than post a weekly blog of my irksome life... but quite frankly: no. I find myself accustomed to make a blog that will most likely fall on deaf ears and blind eyes. Nevertheless, what one has started must, alas, be completed. So it is with great pleasure that I share with you, my future plans concerning show dates, single releases and new song material.

Over the coming weeks drawing up to the Christmas holidays, my backing band and I shall be performing a one-off show somewhere in London. All relevant information may be aquired from: Sherwin YouTube or likewise: Sherwin MySpace.

Furthermore, it is to my knowledge that I shall be releasing my new single "The Virgin" in January next year. This single shall be taken from the new album I will be recording throught the forthcoming year in the Hertfordshire Studios.

Presently however, I find it highly appropriate to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year as demonstrated in the video above.
